For this assignment, I looked into the theme of loneliness and how it slowly develops into independence as portrayed through the EP “Ouch!”

While all there is to provide visually from this album is the cover art, there is a lot to unpack in the meaning of the songs. When looking into the meaning of each song, there is a strong connection between being torn about whether or not to pursue someone or to remain independent and realize that they have to be independent as well.

The beginning of the album sounds as if there is a positive outlook on life, but the lyrics to ‘Come Over’ show a much lesser, drearier outlook for most of the song, focusing on the luxuries and simplicities that the artist is not guaranteed, such as satisfying sleep, money, and independence. However, in the song, you also hear the lyrics “my life is good, I can’t complain,” showing the fact that everything may not be perfect, but there are positives in life. The name of the song is referring to someone that the artist is in a relationship with, that has him stuck, yet he believes he is complacent enough and invites her over.

After this, we start to pull away from that established relationship, and focus on moving away from that relationship, and looking towards independence, even though it may be difficult. With ‘Margie’, his independence is completely established, and he begins to feel at ease with how he has developed as a person due to this, and no longer wants to see her at all.

This whole album has a very interesting and beautiful vibe to it, and with my work, I am looking towards darker, drearier colors in the beginning, and more vibrant colors, such as the album cover green towards the ending of the book. The story will focus on the themes mentioned above and show a transformation as to his character by the end of it.
